Value-Driven System Design of Utility-Scale Airborne Wind Energy

In the current auction-based electricity market, design of utility-scale renewable energy systems has traditionally been driven by levelised cost (LCoE). However, market is gradually moving towards a subsidy-free era, which will expose power plant owners to fluctuating prices electricity. This paper presents computational approach account for influence time-varying on airborne wind (AWE) systems. The framework combines an analytical performance model, providing curve system, with resource characterisation based ERA5 reanalysis data. resulting annual production (AEP) model coupled parametric reference prototype data from Ampyx Power B.V. extended scaling laws. Ultimately, price using real-life ENTSO-E platform maintained association EU transmission system operators was used estimate revenue profile. then compare multiple economic metrics within chosen space. simulation results confirmed expected behaviour that produced at lower speeds higher value than speeds. To this dependency in process, we propose metric defined as profit (LPoE). determines trade-offs between designing minimises and maximises value.
